Born during the December quarter 1920 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/1514, the son of Alfred H. & Frances Adela Ashworth (nee Jordan). Flying in a Wellington Mk IC bomber, he took off at 20.54 hrs from RAF Marham - a/c No. R1507 HA-V for bombing operation to Kiel. They were last heard of at 23.56 hrs asking for assistance. A bearing taken at the time placed the a/c 80 miles off the coast of Holland. The entire crew of six were lost and are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. |
