Born during the June quarter 1881 in the Colchester R.D. - ref: 4a/426, the
second son of Charles Waylon & Annie Elizabeth Amos (nee Green).

1881 Census - 84 Magdalen Street, St. Mary Magdalen, Colchester, Essex.   
Son - aged: 0 - born: Colchester.    His parents were lodgers with a
widowed schoolmistress.    Father - Charles W. Amos - Lodger (Head) -
Married - aged: 23 - occ: Railway Clerk - born: Witham, Essex.    Also
-Annie E. Amos - Wife - aged: 24 - born: Colchester.   Plus 1 elder
brother.

1891 Census -  50, Rendlesham Road East, Ipswich, Suffolk.   Son - aged: 10
- Scholar - born: Colchester.    Head of household - Charles W. Amos -
Married - aged: 33 - occ: Railway Clerk - born: Witham, Essex.    Also -
Annie E. Amos - Wife - aged: 34 - born: Colchester.   Plus 1 elder brother
and 2 younger sisters.

1901 Census -  50 Rendlesham Road, Ipswich, Suffolk.   Son - aged: 20 -
occ: Engineering Draftsman - born: Colchester.   Head of household -
Charles W. Amos - Married - aged: 43 - occ: Railway Clerk - born: Witham,
Essex.    Also - Annie E. Amos - Wife - aged: 44 - born: Colchester.   Plus
1 elder brother and 3 younger sisters.

1911 Census - No Trace.    His parents and 2 younger sisters were then
residing at 148 Bramford Road, Ipswich.

Percy must have been residing at Flixton, Lancashire at the time of his
enlistment.

Percy had joined the Pals, with the majority of 17th Battalion on 2nd
September 1914, as a Private.   As a 33 year old engineering draughtsman,
his maturity must have been recognised and he was swiftly promoted through
the ranks to Sergeant on 1st August 1915.  The Roll of Honour lists Percy
as a Corporal when the III Platoon photograph was taken and it is possible
he had transferred to another Platoon by July 1916.   Percy had lived at
Woodleigh, Western Road, Flixton before he attested.  His mother, Annie
Elizabeth and father, Charles W. Amos, lived in Ipswich with their
remaining family.    Alfred’s sister Mabel was executor to his will
showing a significant estate of £860 8s. 10d.
