Born during the December quarter 1891 in the Altrincham R.D. – ref:
8a/191, the son of Thomas & Emily Whitelegge (nee Yarwood).

1901 Census - Westwood Lodge, Carrington.   Boarder - aged: 9 - born:
Carrington.  There were three young boarders resident with William E. &
Hannah Brereton, the local Schoolmaster and their son, Neville, who was
also a Schoolmaster.

His parents - Thomas & Emily Whitelegge were then residing at 6 George
Street, Irlam, along with 5 of their children, the 4 eldest born at
Carrington.   They must have moved to Irlam at the turn of the year
1900/1901, leaving Ernest at his Carrington School.

1911 Census - Common Lane, Carrington.   Son - aged: 19 - occ: General
Labourer, Manchester Corporation - born: Manchester.   Head of household -
Thomas Whitelegge - Married - aged: 49 - occ: General Labourer, Manchester
Corporation - born: Carrington.  Al;so - Emily Whitelegge - Wife - aged: 45
- born: Manchester.  Plus 8 younger siblings.

Served with the 1st/7th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment, 159th Brigade, 53rd
(Welsh) Division.

He is also commemorated on the Irlam Soap Works panel of the CWS Memorial
at Balloon Street, Manchester.
