Born at 4 Peel Grove, Newton, Manchester on the 18th August 1891, the birth
being registered during the September quarter 1891 in the Prestwich R.D. -
ref: 8d/364, the eldest son of Alfred Ernest & Ann Elizabeth Maybury (nee
Blackshaw).   His father's occupation was - Manager, Law Stationers.    He
had a sister - Doris Maybury and a brother - John Maybury.    On the 23rd
April 1917 on Form 107, detailing his family - both parents are aged: 48 -
his sister is aged: 23 and his brother, who is by now serving with the 10th
Bn Liverpool Scottish, is aged: 19 His father had a Law Stationery business
at Clarence St, Manchester.   He entered his father's business.

1901 Census - 87 Sloane Street, Moss Side, Manchester.    Son - aged: 9 -
born: Longsight, Manchester.   Head of household - Alfred Ernest Maybury -
Married - aged: 32 - occ: Law Stationer - born: Manchester.    Also Ann
Elizabeth Maybury - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Denton, Lancashire.   Plus 3
younger siblings and his maternal grandmother.

Attended St. Margaret's Church School, Whalley Range, Manchester.

1911 Census - 4 West Grove, Sale.    Son -  aged: 19 - occ: Law Stationer's
Apprentice - born: Longsight.    Head of household - Alfred Ernest Maybury
- Married - aged: 42 - occ: Law Stationer Dealer - born: Manchester.   
Also Ann Elizabeth Maybury - Wife - aged: 42 - born: Denton, Lancashire.  
Plus 2 younger siblings.

A long standing member of St. Paul's (Sale) Church Lads Brigade and later
on as Captain of the Timperley Church Lads Brigade.    He was an old
Territorial and served at Gallipoli with the Manchester Rgt.   Commissioned
on the 1st November 1916.   Attd. 18th Bn. Manchester Rgt.

WO 374 states:- He first enlisted at Manchester on the 19th September 1910
as a Lieutenant into the 6th Bn Manchester Rgt.    He was then aged 19
years 0 months and his his height was then 5 feet 6½ inches - chest
measurements 36/3 inches and considered to be of good physical development.
    His address was then given as - 4 West Grove, Brooklands and his
occupation - Law Stationer at J. & R. Maybury, Clarence Street, ????? -
record states that he is an apprentice until the 18th August 1912.  He
signed up for four years.    Preliminary Training from the 19th September
to the 31st October 1910 - Annual Training at Claughton 14th June to the
18th June 1914 - and again at ??????? from 28th July to the 11th August
1912.
Time expired, he was discharged from 3 Stretford Road, Manchester, on the
9th February 1916 - his intended place of residence was given as
"Springfield", Heyes Lane, Timperley.  His character reference states "This
man's character and conduct has been very good throughout his service".
After a couple of months out, he again enlisted at Manchester on the 7th
June 1916 - he was now aged: 24 years 10 months - height: 5 feet 7 inches -
weight: 152 lb - chest measurements 35/3 - complexion: Fresh - eyes: Brown
- Hair: Black.   His trade or calling was given as Ex-Soldier - time
expired with the 6th Bn Manchester Rgt - 09/02/1916 - No. 1298.   He was
promoted to the rank of Corporal on the 4th September 1914, but reverted to
Private on the 27th January 1915.   He embarked at Southampton on the 10th
September 1914, bound for Egypt and later embarked at Alexandria for the
Dardenelles on the 3rd May 1915.   He was sick 16th - 17th August 1915 and
again between the 24th October and 3rd December 1915.    He arrived back at
Alexandria on the 11th December 1915 and embarked from there for England on
the 19th December 1915 and served at "Home" (UK) until the 9th February
1916.    He applied for a commission in May 1916 and the vicar of Timperley
- George Daniel Wray signed his character reference form on the 25th May
1916, stating that he had known Reginald Maybury for five years - he was
commissioned on the 24th October 1916.   By July 1919 his parents had moved
to "Cherisy", Ashlands, Ashton on Mersey.
