Born during the Juen quarter 1889 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/798, the
eldest son of James Edward & Annie Whipp (nee Lowe).

1891 Census - 39 Stockport Road, Ardwick, Manchester.   Son - aged: 2 -
born: Manchester.   Head of household - James E. Whipp - Married - aged: 29
- occ: Leather Dealer & Ink Manufacturer - born: Salford.   Also - Annie
Whipp - Wife - aged: 26 - born: Manchester.  Plus his younger brother -
Willy Whipp - aged: 4 months - born: Manchester.  Plus his paternal aunt.

1901 Census - 65 Charlton Street, Moss Side, Manchester.    Son - aged: 11
- born: Manchester.   Head of household - James E. Whipp - Married - aged:
39 - occ: Leather Merchant - born: Salford.   Also - Annie Whipp - Wife -
aged: 36 - born: Manchester.  Plus 3 younger brothers including Willy Whipp
- aged: 10 months - born: Manchester.  Willy Whipp was also killed during
WW1.

1911 Census - High Bank, Church Lane, Ashton upon Mersey.   Son - aged: 21
- occ: Shop Manager, Leather Factor.   Head of household - James E. Whipp -
Married - aged: 49 - occ: Managing Director, Leather Factor - born:
Salford.   Also - Annie Whipp - Wife - aged: 46 - born: Manchester.  Plus 2
younger brothers (not Willy Whipp).

Member of Sale Oakfield Baptist Church.   Assistant secretary of the Sale &
Ashton on Mersey Liberal Association.

The 10/12/1915 edition of the local newspaper reported that he had met with
a bad accident when returning in the dark from Farnborough with a message. 
 He was in collision with a traction engine and suffered a compound
fracture of his thigh and was taken to Connault Hospital, Aldershot, and
was expected to recover, but died during a second operation.

Death reported in the 07/01/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Buried 10/01/1916 - Burial No. 14,894.

Manchester Courier 11/01/1916 - Injured in a motor cycle accident from
which he never recovered.   An Escort Party from the Sale Company
Territorial Cadets attened the funeral.

His father was the assistant secretary for the Sale & Ashton on Mersey war
relief fund.

Listed as J. Leonard Whipp on St, Mary's Memorial and as Frances Leanord
Whipp in the Cemetery records.

One of three brothers serving in the armed forces.   His brother - Willy
Whipp was also killed during WW1.

Not mentioned in the Royal Flying Corps Communiqués of 1915 - 1918.  
Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1917.

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery.   His father -
James E. Whipp died on the 6th October 1924, aged: 62 years and his mother
- Annie Whipp, died on the 15th February 1944, aged: 79 years.
