Born during the March quarter 1897 in the Salford R.D. - ref: 8d/195, the
son of Samuel & Margaret Winterbottom (nee Whittaker).   Baptised at the
Stowell Memorial Church, Salford on the 4th April 1897.    His parents were
then residing at 145 Eccles New Road and his father's occupation given as
Grey Cloth Salesman.

Salford, Lancashire.   Head of household - Samuel Winterbottom - Married -
aged: 50 - occ: Grey Cotton Cloth Merchant - born: Salford.   Also Margaret
Winterbottom - Wife - aged: 44 - born: Whittle Springs, Lancashire.   Plus
3 elder sisters.

1911 Census - Norman Villas, Barkers Lane, Ashton upon Mersey.   Son -
aged: 14 - Scholar - born: Salford.   Head of household - Samuel
Winterbottom - Married - aged: 60 - occ: Grey Cotton Cloth Merchant - born:
Salford.   Also Margaret Winterbottom - Wife - aged: 54 - born: Whittle
Springs, Lancashire.   Plus 3 elder sisters.

MIC - originally a Private with the Royal Scots - No. 242778, before
gaining a Commission with the Royal Warwickshire Rgt.  The records states
that he was drafted to France, but gives no date.
