Born during the September quarter 1882 in the Stockport R.D. - ref: 8a/47,
the eldest son of George & Jessie Swift (nee Schofield). One can only
guess that the 'S' stood for Schofield ? He seems to have been referred to
as Verner by his parents.

Presumably, after George's death, Alice moved back to Sale to be with her
family. And it was probably Alice that had his name inscribed onto the
Sale & Ashton War Memorial and onto St. Paul's Church Memorial This
appears to be George's only connection to Sale.
