Ulverston, Lancashire.   Plus 4 siblings.   The family moved to Sale
between 1892 and 1896.

Atended All Saints School, Ashton upon Mersey.

A devoted athlete and one of the best boxers for his weight in the
Manchester District.    He was also a good swimmer and did life-saving work
on the Bridgewater Canal on several occasions.

After four rejections, he eventually enlisted in January 1915.

MIC - Drafted to France on the 27th January 1915.    Awarded the 15 Star,
the BWM & the VM.

Served in Italy during the winter of 1917/18.      At the time of his
death, he was serving in France and had been recommended for a commission.

Death reported in the 13/12/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.
