Born September quarter 1916 in the Chorlton R.D, the son of William
Alexander & Ellen Buck (nee Harrison).

During the December quarter 1939, James married René M. Broadbent in the
Barton on Irwell R.D.

James attended the Stretford Grammar School and is commemorated in their
WW2 Memorial Book.

As a Pilot, he was on a patrol over France on the 7th June 1940 and landed
at Rouen-Boos with a burst tyre, but managed to return to RAF Tangmere the
following day.

Flying with 43 Squadron - a Hurricane P 3531 - at 17.15 hrs, off Selsey,
West Sussex, he was shot down in combat by Fw Lehmann in a Bf109s of III/JG
27.   Although wounded, he managed to bail out of his aircraft but drowned,
his body was later found on Worthing Beach.

James is buried in Stretford Cemetery, in a joint grave with his brother,
Flight Lieutenant Herbert Arnold Buck who also died on active service right
at the end of the war.   M.I. "In sure & certain hope of a glorious
resurrection".
