Joined the Metro-Vicker's Company as a Probationary Trade Apprentice in
March 1937 and became a TA in November 1937.    On completion of his
apprenticeship he joined the Inspection Department.   Joined the RAFVR in
December 1941.   Promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant in 1943.   
Reported missing over enemy territory in August 1943.

M.V's Memorial states that he was a Flight Sergeant.

Flying with 426 RCAF Sqn ("Thunderbird" Sqn), part of 6 Group, in a
Lancaster Mk.II Bomber, No. DS674 OW.   They took off from RAF
Linton-on-Ouse at 21.32 hrs for a bombing raid on Peenemünde - the V.i.
and V.2. development site on the Baltic coast.   The aircraft was lost
without trace.   One of over 40 a/c lost on that important raid.- it is
estimated that the raid put the German V-weapon programme back 6 months.
