Born during the September quarter 1923 in the Barton on Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/967, the son of Thomas Edward & Laura Chew (nee Taylor)

Flying with 44 Sqn, he took off at 16.21 hrs from RAF Dunholme Lodge in a
Lancaster Mk III bomber, No. DV238 KM-M for a raid on Berlin.   The a/c
crashed near Diepholtz where they were buried on the 18th December 1943.   
 At the end of hostilities, the bodies of the crew were removed and taken
to the Hanover War Cemetery, Niedersachsen.

A total of 57 British bomber a/c were lost on the Berlin raid that night,
plus others on separate SOE missions.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Stretford Cemetery.

His father, Thomas Edward died 14/08/1962 aged 70 years and his mother,
Laura died 11/08/1970 aged 80 years.
