The Silvercedar was built in 1924, it's gross register tonnage was 4,354,
it was 395 feet long, 52 feet wide and could make 10.5 knots.   A cargo
ship, it was one of 18 ships operated by the Silver Line Ltd, 80
Bishopsgate, London EC2.

Travelling from New York to Liverpool, on the 15/10/41 she was torpedoed by
U-553, whilst in convoy SC48 and sank in position - 53.36N 30W.   There
were 26 survivors, but 21 crew/passengers were lost.

Joseph's Brother - John, a Steward on board the M.V. Scottish Maiden was
also killed 11 months prior to Joseph.
