1901 Census - Green Lane, Ashton upon Mersey.  [Family listed as DONAGHAN]

Martin Donaghan - Married - occ: Plasterer's Labourer - born: Altrincham.  
Also - Ellen Donaghan - Wife - aged: 37 - born: Barmouth, Wales.   Plus - 5
younger siblings.

1911 census - 31 Hyde Grove, Sale.   [Family listed as DONAGHAN]   Son -
aged: 21 - occ: Bricklayer's Labourer - born: Sale.    Head of household -
Ellen Donegan - Widow - aged: 48 - born: Llwyngwril, Wales.   Plus 2

Employed at Atlantic Works, Altrincham.  (George Richards ???).

Enlisted on the 12th August 1914.

He was twice wounded and once gassed and also suffered from frostbite - he
saw action in much of the big fighting.   Admitted into the 14th Field
Ambulance on the 27th October 1915.

SDGW states that he was in the 1st Bn. Cheshire Rgt.   His eldest brother
Private T. Donovan was also serving in the Cheshire Rgt.

CSM Moore wrote to his mother following his death, saying that he had
spoken to Lance Corporal Donegan a few minutes before he was killed - who
said to him, "I wonder how my brother got on in --------- (censored)".  
Just then he was called away by an officer and a few minutes later he was
told that he had been wounded, but when he got back to him, he had died.   
 He (CSM Moore) arranged to have his body taken out of the trenches and he
was buried the next morning.

Death reported in the 10/07/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed as Joseph Donegan on St. Joseph's Memorial.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.
