Arthur was mortally injured when a storage shed containing highly
inflammable oil drums was set on fire after a Berry Wiggins Ltd., Oil
Refiner's Depot at Eccles Old Road, Weaste, received a direct hit on the
5th September 1940.  He died three weeks later in the Salford Royal
Hospital on the 29th October 1940.   Arthur resided at 5 Lodge Avenue East,
Urmston and was a serving fireman in the Auxiliary Fire Service.

Buried on the 2nd November 1940.

Commemorated on the Manchester City FB Memorial as being from Urmston.
