Attended Navigation Road School, Broadheath.   Member of the Broadheath
Congregational Church Sunday School.    Employed by Messrs. H.W. Kearns &
Co, Broadheath.  He enlisted on the 27th October 1914 from where he was
residing at 15 Navigation Road, Broadheath..

MIC - states that he was posted to France on the 17th July 1915.  That he
was awarded the 15 Star, the BWM & VM.

The 7th Bn, Royal Lancaster Rgt served in the 19th (Western) Division, 56th
Brigade.  They were actively involved in the Battle of the Somme 1916 right
from the start being in a support position on the 1st July, the first day
of the Battle.   Actively involved throughout July, but on the 23rd July
they moved forward into Mametz Wood.  On the 27th July they were in
bivouacs north of Bernafay Wood.  They took over the front line north-east
of Bazentin-le-Petit, where Sidney was wounded.

After progressing back through the Field Ambulance and Casualty Clearing
Stations, Sidney ended up at the No. 2 Stationary Hospital at Abbeville,
France where he died.  Buried on the 31st July 1916.

Death reported in the 11/08/1916 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.
