The 19/03/1915 edition of the local newspaper reports that he has just
enlisted, having been employed as a Waterman with the Sale & Altrincham
Joint Fire Brigade.   Also employed as a Waterman with the North Cheshire
Water Company.

The 13/09/1918 edition of the local newspaper states that he was employed
by Messrs. Luck & Sproston, Butchers, Bath St, Altrincham

Enlisted when he was only 16½ years of age.

Listed as John Gandy on the Roll of Honour - Jack on SDGW

The 25/05/1915  edition of ther local newspaper reports that he had just
been promoted to the rank of Corporal.

In a letter to his mother, his Platoon Commander, wrote "He was one of my
Lewis Gunners, when the battalion mounted an attack on the enemy.   He
moved forward with his gun to fire on the retreating enemy, when he was
struck by a shell and killed instantly.
