Born during the December quarter 1899 in the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/355,
the eldest son of Josiah Charles & Annie Churchman (nee Dean).

1901 Census - 9 Derbyshire Road, Prestwich, North Manchester.    Son -
aged: 1 - born: Newton Heath, Manchester.   Head of household - Joseph C.
Churchman - Married - aged: 28 - occ: Drapers Salesman - born: South
Hornsey, London.   Also - Annie Churchman - Wife - aged: 27 - born: Newton
Heath.

1911 Census - 36 Victoria Drive, Sale.    Son - aged: 11 - born: Newton
Heath, Manchester.    Head of household - Joseph C. Churchman - Married -
aged: 38 - occ: Salesman Cotton Goods - born: South Hornsey, London.   Also
- Annie Churchman - Wife - aged: 37 - born: Newton Heath.  Plus 3 younger
siblings.

WO363 - Attested at Altrincham from 36 Victoria Drive on the 6th September
1917, aged: 17 years 11 months.   Mobilised on the 22nd November 1917 into
the 53rd (YS) Welch Regiment No.4.31786 and posted to Kinmel Camp.   
Height: 5 feet 6½ inches - Weight: 112 lb - Expanded chest: 34 inches with
a 4 inch expansion.   Whilst stationed at Kinmel Camp, he was admitted to
hospital on the 16th December 1917 suffering from Bronchitis - released on
the 3rd January 1918.  Posted to the 51st Battalion on the 28th March 1918.
   Posted to France on the 30th May 1918 and into the 231st Brigade, 74th
(Yeomanry) Division.   Transferred to the 24th Battalion on the 21st June
1918.

MIC - Originally served with the Training Reserve Bn - No. TR4/31786, later
transferred to the Welsh Rgt - No. 57521.   BWM & Victory.

2 March 1917 : came under orders of 231st Brigade in 74th (Yeomanry)
Division with which it then remained.
Landed at Marseilles on 7 May 1918.

M.I. - "Duty nobly done".

After the War, his parents moved to No.19 Victoria Road, Sale.
