Trafford

Born during the June quarter 1892 in the Nantwich R.D. - ref: 8a/353, the
son of Joseph Tertius & Mary Ann Deeley (nee Lewis).   Marriage record
states "DEELY".

1901 Census - 19 Beever Street, Stretford.   Son - aged: 8 - born: Crewe,
Cheshire.    Head of household - Joseph T. Deeley - Married - aged: 37 -
occ: Grain Stevedore - born: Birmingham.     Also - Mary A. Deeley - Wife -
aged: 30 - born: Birmingham.   Plus - 1 elder sister.    The family have
been recorded as "DALY".

1911 Census - No Trace.    His parents are now residing at 17 Fulford
Street, Old Trafford.

Married Mabel Rowles at the Barton-on-Irwell Register Office, during the
June quarter 1915 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1616.

I am most grateful to Neil Drum & Pete Thomas for allowing me to use
verbatim the following extract from their superb 623 page book "A District
at War - Irlam & Cadishead's Part in the Great War", an incredibly detailed
and comprehensive book that is not only a credit to them, but a magnificent
memorial to the WW1 men of that district.

Served with the 11th (Service) Battalion, The Manchester Regiment, 34th
Infantry Brigade, 11th (Northern) Division.

Joseph was born at Crewe and resided at Irlam with his wife, Mabel, who
came originally from 'Athiel', Rhos Road, Rhos-on-Sea, Colwyn Bay.   His
father, also called Joseph, lived in Flixton.   He enlisted at Manchester
and served initially with the 2nd Manchesters before being posted to the
11th Manchesters.

Joseph was killed in action during the Battle of Langemarck (Third Battle
of Ypres) on Thursday, 16th August 1917 at the age of 25.   His name does
not appear on the Irlam and Cadishead War Memorial but he is listed on the
Flixton Memorial in St Michael's Church, Church Road, Flixton, probably at
the request of his father.   Also commemorated on the Flixton Parish Roll
of Honour       Medal Entitlement: Pair.
