Born during the March quarter 1889 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/161,
the son of David William & Betsy Hannah Griffiths (nee Simpson).

1891 Census - 4 Hope Road, Sale.   Son - aged: 2 - born: Sale.   Head of
household - David William Griffiths - Married - aged: 35 - occ: Builder's
Merchant - born: Manchester.  Also Betsy Hannah Griffiths - Wife - aged: 36
- born: Nottingham.   Plus 4 siblings and 1 domestic servant.

His mother - Betsy Hannah Griffiths died in childbirth in 1894, aged: 39.

Attended St. Matthews Church School, Stretford.

1901 Census - No Trace of David nor any of his family.

1911 Census - 155 Water Street, Manchester.  Barman - aged: 22 - occ:
Barman - born: Sale.    His widower father, 3 siblings and a niece were
then residing at 5 Carlton Road, Ashton upon Mersey.   His father was aged:
55 and a Retired Builder's Merchant.

Later employed by Boots Drug Department, Cambridge St, Manchester.

Married Ellen Richardson at St. Matthew's P.C. during the June quarter 1916
 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1131.  Ellen's family ran the
farm on Bradley Lane, near Crossford Bridge, Sale.

Enlisted in February 1916 in the Manchester Rgt - No. 33639 and drafted to
the front in June 1916.   Later transferred to the MGC.  He was involved in
the Battle of the Somme 1916 and at Passchendaele, Belgium.

Slightly gassed in May 1918 and spent some time in hospital abroad.   
Rejoined his unit just three weeks before his death.

Death reported in the 04/10/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

CWGC - Brother of Louisa Griffiths, 10 Almond Grove, Old Trafford.
