Born during the June quarter 1893 in the Barton on Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/745, the eldest child of Henry (Harry) & Jessie Garft (nee Walton).  
Harry married Jessie Walton in 1892 and was listed as Henry Garft.

1901 Census - No Trace.

1911 Census - George & Dragon P.H.,  Manchester Road, Altrincham.    Son -
aged: 17 - occ: Insurance Clerk - born: Hale.    Head of household - Harry
Garft - Married - aged: 41 - occ: Hotel Keeper - born: Manchester.   Also -
Jessie Garft - Wife - aged: 37 - occ: Assisting in Business - born: Hale.  
Plus 3 younger sisters and 1 domestic servant.

Manchester Evening News dated the 11th July 1916.   Mr. & Mrs. Garft of the
Legh Arms Hotel, Knutsford, formerly of the Platford Hotel, Manchester,
have been informed that their son - George Walton Garft has neen wounded in
action in the recent advance (Battle of the Somme 1916).   After being hit
he managed to crawl two miles, mostly over dead Germans (Propaganda ???). 
He now lies in a French hospital and is progressing favourably.  In
civilian life he was employed as a Clerk by the Vulcan Insurance Co., King
Street, Manchester.

M.I. - "May his Reward be as Great as His Sacrifice".

CWGC - Son of Mrs. Jessie Almond (formerly Garft) of 13 Chelford Road,
Knutsford & the late Harry Garft.

His father - Harry Garft, died on the 25th April 1924 - aged: 55 years.  
His mother married Joseph H. Almond in 1925 Harry was a Gardener and by
1939 they were residing at Lime Lodge, Chelford Road, Over Knutsford

Commemorated on both the Knutsford War Memorial and the Over Knutsford War
Memorial.
