Born during the December quarter 1901 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/874,
the eldest son of the Rev. Joseph Chapman and Violet Mary Gwendoline
Chapman (nee Hay).

1911 Census - 77 Lansdowne Road, West Didsbury, Manchester.   Son - aged: 9
- born: Manchester.    Head of household - Joseph Chapman - Married - aged:
36 - occ: Clergyman (Established) Church with the South Manchester
Guardians - born: Hull, Yorkshire.   Also - Violet Mary Gwendoline Chapman
- Wife - aged: 33 - born: Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, Wales.  Plus 2
younger siblings.

Attended Manchester Grammar School, but is not commemorated on either of
their WW1 Memorials.

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery - K.944.

His father - Joseph Chapman MA, was the vicar of St. Paul's P.C. from 1912
until his death on the 6th August 1955, aged: 80.  His mother - Violet Mary
Gwendoline Chapman died on the 13th March 1933, aged: 54.

At the time of Edward's death, his father was Canon Chapman.

He was not commemorated by the CWGC until recently and his gravestone was
badly damaged and a mess due to the WW2 bombing of the Island.   He was
accepted for their commemoration in 2016 following representation by
Michael Riley (Archivist St. Paul's P.C.) and myself.   From my inquiry to
the Dept of Environmental Health, Valletta.  "Dear Mr. Cogswell,    Please
be informed that according to registers held at Ta' Braxia Cemetery, Pieta
there is registered the burial of Edward Mac Donald Chapman, 18 years an,
apprentice, on 30th November, 1919. The site of internment is Division 23,
Site 11."

The CWGC  have now provided one of their standard Portland Stone headstones
for his grave.   CWGC record - Son of the Rev. J. Chapman, of St. Paul's
Vicarage, Sale, Cheshire.
