the son of Thomas & Elizabeth Gardner (nee Harvey).

1901 Census - 8 Oldfield Grove, Sale.   Son - aged: 17 - occ: Apprentice
Plasterer - born: Sale.   Head of household - Thomas Gardner - Married -
aged: 53 - occ: Journeyman Plasterer - born: Manchester.   Also - Elizabeth
Gardner - Wife - aged: 55 - born: Manchester.    Plus 3 siblings and a
nephew.

1911 Census - No Trace

His parents were then still residing at  8 Oldfield Grove Sale.  His father
- aged: 64 - occ: Plasterer - born: Ardwick, Manchester.  His mother -
aged: 65 - born: Ardwick, Manchester.  Plus his sister - Clara - aged: 25 -
born: Sale. 

Pension Record - KiA 03/10/1915.   Resided at 36 James Street, Sale Moor.  
It records him as a Private in the Cheshire Rgt, but there has been added
"Mont Blanc" ???    [S.S. Mont Blanc was the famous ship that exploded in
Halifax Harbour, Nova Scotia in 1917, killing around 2,000 people and
injuring around 9,000].    For some strange reason, he is recorded as
"Arthur" Gardner, with "Walter" written over the top.
