8a/541, the son of William & Lily Jones.

MIC - Posted to France on the 15th February 1915.

'A' Company - landed at Le Havre on 15th February 1915.

From Souastre, took part in attack on Gommecourt 01/07 (203 casualties). 
Bn remained working in the area until moved to Doulens 20/08; Hiermont
22/08; St. Riquier 23/08; Corbie 04/09; Citadel Camp 06/09; Contour Wood
07/09; Dug communication trench across Death Valley to the recently
captured Leuze Wood 08/09; Faviier Wood 14/09;   New trench dug in front of
enemy positions at Bouleaux Wood 19/09 - trench was named "Gropi" after the
name of the commanding officer 'Groves' and the word 'Pioneer'.  No mention
of any action on the 20th or 21st, but in view of the duties on the 19th he
could have fallen to a sniper, or perhaps some shells were fired into the
new constructions.

Stretford.   Awarded a weekly Pension of 3/- w.e.f. the 22nd May 1917
updated to 3/6d on the 27th October 1917 and 5/- w.e.f. the 3rd February
