Born during either the March quarter or the September quarter 1892 in the
Manchester R.D. ref: 8d/249 and 8d/316 respectively.   He was the son of
William & Ann Litherland (nee Scowcroft).

1901 Census - No Trace.

Attended St. Joseph's R.C. School, Sale.

1911 Census - 6 Garden View, Cross Street, Ashton upon Mersey.   Son -
aged: 17 - occ: Errand Boy - born: Manchester.   Head of household -
William Litherland - Married - aged: 55 - occ: Farm Labourer - born:
Manchester.    Also Ann Litherland - Wife - aged: 51 - born: Ashton upon
Mersey.   Plus 2 siblings and 1 visitor.

SDGW states that he was with the 09th Bn.

Employed by Mr. J. Proctor Green, Brooklands Rd, Sale.

Enlisted in November 1914 and posted to France on the 27th September 1915.

Married Alice Hampson during the March quarter 1917 in the Bucklow R.D. -
ref: 8a/231.

Killed instantly along with two others when a shell dropped into their part
of the trench.

Death reported in the 27/07/1917 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.

Pension Records - Widow - Alice Litherland, 37 Ashton New Road, Beswick,
Manchester.   Awarded a £3 grant on the 7th July 1917 and a weekly pension
of 13/9d w.e.f. the 31st December 1917.
