the elder son of William & Margaret Ann Skinner (nee Faulkner).

Originally served in the 4th Bn (Territorial), South Lancashire Rgt (Prince
of Wales' Volunteers).

The first entry on his RAF record is 15th May 1916 when he was sent to the
School of Military Aeronautics at Reading, situated in the old University
College, Reading.   From there he was posted to 57 Sqn on the 3rd June
1916.     Then drafted to 28 Reserve Sqn  on the 24th July 1916 when he was
appointed Temporary Captain before moving to 49 Sqn on the 1st August 1916.
  Finally transferring to 27 Sqn on the 16th August 1916.    Shot down on
the 31st August 1916.

Mentioned in the Royal Flying Corps Communiqués of 1915 - 1918.

Communiqué No. 51 (28th August - 5th September 1916) - There was a
considerable number of dog fights on the 31st August - the day that he was
listed as being missing.

Commemorated on the family gravestone in Sale Cemetery.

His father - William Skinner, was born on the 10th November 1950 and died
on the 22nd Novemebr 1929.    His mother - Margaret Ann Skinner, was born
on the 16th March 1859 and died on the 19th October 1937.
