Born at Winsford, Cheshire on the 4th January 1885, the son of Thomas &
Sarah Kay (nee Fltcher or Lightfoot)..

1891 Census - No Trace.   His parents and his youngest sister were residing
at Dean Cottages, Ways Green, Over, Northwich at this time.  His father -
Thomas Kay was aged: 34 and employed as a Labourer at the Salt Works and
was born at Bolton, Lancashire.   His mother - Sarah was aged: 32 and
employed as a Fustian Cutter, born at Over, Cheshire.

Attended St. Martin's C of E Primary School w.e.f. the 9th December 1895. 
The son of Thomas Kay, Derby Road.   His sisters - Sarah & Elizabeth Kay,
were also admitted on this date.  There is a note stating that they were
from the Winsford Board, so presumably, the family moved from Winsford to
Ashton upon Mersey sometime in late 1895? 

His father died in 1898, aged: 41.

1901 Census - Field Terrace, Ashton Upon Mersey.    Son - aged: 16
(b.1885)- occ: General Labourer - born: Winsford, Cheshire.    Head of
household - Sarah Kay - Widow - aged: 41 - occ: Laundress (not domestic) -
born: Winsford.    Plus 5 younger siblings, the youngest aged: 4 - born:
Ashton on Mersey, the others - Winsford.

1911 Census - No Trace.

Married Harriett A. Williams during the March quarter 1915 in the Bucklow
R.D. - ref: 8a/301.  Harriet was the daughter of Edward & Mary Ellen
Williams, General Labourer, 7 Mason Street, Sale.   She was aged: 15 at the
time of the 1911 Census (b.1896).

Pension Records - Dependant - Widow Harriet Alice Kay, 7 Mason Street,
Sale.   Awarded a weekly pension of 10/- w.e.f. the 5th March 1917, this
was increased to 13/9d w.e.f. the 4th April 1917 and again to 18/9d w.e.f.
the 26th May 1917.   There was one child - Samuel William Kay, born on the
26th May 1917 (so Harriet received 5/- pension for Samuel).  Died from
Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak, whilst on Active Service.
