the eldest son of Robert & Catherine (Kate) Bruce (nee Walmsley).

1901 Census - 44 Queen Street, Coatham, North Yorkshire.   Son - aged: 7 -
born: Sale.    Head of household - Robert Bruce - Married - aged: 43 - occ:
Commercial Traveller - born: Edinburgh.    Also - Kate Bruce - Wife - aged:
36 - born: Preston, Lancashire.   Plus 2 siblings & 1 domestic servant.

1911 Census - 1 Holmefield, Sale.    Son - aged: 17 - occ: Clerk in
Shipping Warehouse - born: Sale.   Head of household - Robert Bruce -
Married - aged: 55 - occ: Commercial Traveller - born: St. Bernard's,
Edinburgh.    Also - Kate Bruce - Wife - aged: 51 - born: Preston,
Lancashire.   Plus 3 siblings.

Attended Redcar Grammar School.

The local newspaper stated that his widowed mother lived at Holmfield,
Sale.  His RFC Record states that he resided at 1 Homefield, Sale.

Employed for 5 years by Messrs. Roskill, Shippers, Manchester

Joined the Army in 1912 and was promoted to Corporal in the Cheshire
Yeomanry Mo.820.   Later promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.   
Gazetted on the 6th September 1917 - page 9244.   Corporal RSM Bruce
promoted to Acting 2nd Lt. in the RFC.    27th September 1917.

MIC - Posted to Egypt 03/03/1916.   Awarded the BWM & VM.  Mother listed as
residing at "The Grove", Moss Lane, Ashton upon Mersey.

Posted to 111 Sqn on the 25th July 1917.

Killed in a flying accident at Alexandria, Egypt.

Death reported in the 31/08/1917 nedition of the Altrincham Guardian.

His brother R.D. Bruce was serving with the Royal Engineers.

Not mentioned in the Royal Flying Corps Communiqués of 1915 - 1918.

Listed in the Guardian Year Book - Roll of Honour for 1918.
