8c/726, the eldest son of Charles William & Kate Mitchell (nee Anderson).

born: Stretford.    Head of household - Charles W. Mitchell - Married -
aged: 37 - occ: Cotton Cloth Salesman - born: Salford.   Also - Kate

The 17th Battalion, Manchester Regiment (2nd City Bn) served with the 90th
Brigade, 30th Division on the Somme.   They were involved from the first
day of the Battles. On the 12th October 1916, the Battalion moved forward
to the notorious, Delville Wood and attacked on Bayonnet Trench.  Small
parties entered the objective, but later were forced to retire.   Alec was
killed during the action.

SDGW lists his number as simply 8241.
