A St. John's Choirboy, he was employed by Luke & Spencers of Broadheath.  

Volunteered for the RAF in May 1939.   A corporal fitter until early in
1943, when he volunteered for flight engineering duties.

Alfred was engaged to Miss May Norbury of Cross St, Sale.  His brother
Stanley was a German POW.

Flight Engineer.  Killed in a flying accident at Elkington, near Daventry,
Warwickshire.  Buried 26/08/1943 - Burial No. 11,772.

Took off from RAF Melbourne, Yorkshire, for a training exercise in a
Halifax Mk II - No. JD119 ZA-C.  They lost a propeller and crashed at 23.15
hours some 4 miles SSW of Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

Commemorated on the private family gravestone in Hale Cem.

His father Patrick, who was in the R.F.A. in the 1st W.W. died on
11/02/1954 aged 69 and his mother, Annie died on 19/04/1975 aged 85.
