Born during the June quarter 1918 in the Salford R.D. - ref: 8d/32, the son
of Ernest & Annie Goldstraw (nee Hussey).

1921 Census -  62 Harry Street, Salford.   Son - aged: 3 - born: Salford. 
Head of household - William Goldstraw - Married - aged: 45 - occ: Labourer
for the Manchester Ship Canal Company - born: Timperley.     Also Sarah
Goldstraw - Wife - aged: 47 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties - born:
Timperley.  Plus a Hussey step-son.    Also residing at this address was
Ernest Goldstraw- Brother (Boarder) - Married - aged: 31 - occ: Furnace Man
at Linoype.Ltd, Broadheath - born: Timperley.    Also Annie Goldstraw -
Sister-in-Law (boarder) aged: 26 - occ: Home Duities - born: Timperley.  
Both brothers arried Hussey sisters.

1939 National Registration.   96 Hulton Sreet, Salford.    Son - born on
the 18th May 1918 - Single - occ: Rubber Packer..    Head of household -
Ernest Goldstraw - Born on the 24th January 1885 - Married - occ: Rubber
Worker.  Also - Annie Goldstraw - Born on the 31st October 1895 - Married -
occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.   Plus Ernest's paternal grandmother and
younger sister.

Ernest was killed along with 28 other crew members of H.M.S. Tunisian, a
238 ton pre-War trawler fishing vessel, converted into a Boom Defence
Vessel.   The Vessel, was sunk by a mine off the coast of Harwich.

AGNES AND ADA AND GRANNIE

Only six bodies were recovered - four are buried in the Shotley Royal Naval
Cemetery, Suffolk, one at Gillingham, Kent and one in the Netherlands.
(presumably his body drifted across the North Sea to be washed up in
Holland???).   Four men are commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial ands
nineteen on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire.
