They took off at 22.30 hours from RAF Little Staughton, Huntingdonshire, in
a Lancaster Mk III - No. ND810 60-R, to bomb Stuttgart.   They crashed at
01.50 hours to the south of Heimerdingen, 21 kilometres ESE of Pforzheim. 
It is likely that the a/c exploded, throwing clear the pilot - Sqn Leader
V.G.F. Coleman, who was the only survivor and became a POW.

The other crew members were:- Flight Engineer - Flight Sgt. Reginald
Charles Lindfield Lewis, aged: 39 and one of the oldest airmen killed in
1944:  Navigator - Pilot Officer William Frederick Bunting DFM, aged: 23; 
Air Bomber - Flight Lt. Donald Sinclair Margach DFC, aged: 32;  Wireless
Operator/Air Gunner Warrant Officer William Waldron, aged: 25;  Air Gunner
- Warrant Officer Alfred Peter Baines;  Air Gunner - Flight Sgt. David
Baines.   Pilot Officer Bunting had already completed 40 missions with 150
Sqn, before transferring to 582 Sqn.

Flight Sgt. Taylor was was carrying out the duties of a second air bomber.
