The "Oriskany" was built in 1924, it's gross register tonnage was 1,644, it
was 264 feet long, 35 feet wide and could make 13 knots.    A cargo ship,
it was one of 15 ships operated by the Standard Fruit & Steamship
Corporation, 200 Carondelet St., Postbox 830, New Orleans, USA.

In April 1941 it became a British - Ministry of War Vessel.

Off Land's End, travelling from South Wales to London, on the 24/02/1945
she was torpedoed by U-480, whilst sailing in convoy BTC78 and sank in
position - 50.04.36N 05.50.40W.      There were no survivors, and a total
of 26 crew were lost.

The frigates "Duckworth" and " Rowley" then sank the U-boat U-480.
