Born during the June quarter 1922 in the Barton on Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/994, the son of Thomas & Nora Winstanley (nee Burton).

A Bomb Aimer, he took off at 11.00 hrs from RAF Harwell in a Wellington Mk
IC bomber, No. X3171 for a cross country training flight.   The pilot lost
control while flying in cloud and dived almost wertically to crash at 15.15
hrs at Blackburn Fell, in or near the Harwood Forest, close to the village
of Elsdon, some three miles ESE of Otterburn, Northumberland.  The entire
crew of six were all killed. 

Buried 08/03/1943 - Burial No. 18,895.
