Born during the December quarter 1913 in the Prestwich R.D. - ref: 8d/531,
the son of William Stuart & Louisa Bancroft (nee Barratt).

The family resided at 1265 Chester Road, Stretford.

At 22.45 hrs on the 12th July, flying with 103 Sqn he took off from RAF
Elsham Wolds in a Lancaster Mk I - No. ME674 PM-T to bomb the railway
facilities at Revigny.  Their a/c collided with another Lancaster Mk I from
550 Sqn and crashed some 10 Kms west of Bar-de-Luc, in the Mause
Department, Lorraine, north-eastern France, between Reims and Nancy.   They
are all buried in the Couvanges Churchyard.     The other a/c was from RAF
North Killingholme and that crew were also all killed. 

His father - William Stuart Bancroft was buried at St. Matthew's PC on
24/03/1942 - aged: 62.
