Born during the March quarter 1894 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/793, the
adopted son of William & Mary Hughes.

1901 Census - No Trace.

1911 Census - 4 Heath Street, Pendleton, Salford.    Adopted Son - aged: 17

Also - Mary Hughes - Wife - aged: 49 - born: Birkenhead.  Plus a youger
adopted sister.- Louisa Whalley. 

Married Mary Ann Camm during the June quarter 1915 in the Salford R.D. -
ref: 8d/137 and they resided at 57 Milton Road, Gorse Hill, Stretford.

1939 National Registration - 57 Milton Road, Stretford.   Mary Tomkinson -
Married - born: 18th March 1893 - occ: Unpaid Domestic Duties.   Walter
Tomkinson - Single - born: 26th May 1919 - occ: Tea Delivery Clerk.   May
Tomkinson - Single - born: 4th September 1920 - occ: Grocery Packer.  
Walter was not at this address on that date.

CWD Report No. 58.   Died as a result of blast at 57 Milton Road,
Stretford, from where his body was recovered on the 24th December 1940 and
taken to the City Road Mortuary, Old Trafford.    His body was identified
by his son George W. Tomkinson, No. 948070 Royal Artillery, to whom it was
released for burial.    Described as being 5 feet 5 inches in height, of
slim build, with grey hair and brown eyes.   His wife's body was released
for burial to the Council's Undertaker Contractor - R. Pepperdine, 31 Ayres
Road, Old Trafford - although not recorded on Walter's record, it is to be
assumed that his body was as well.

Employed as a Motor Driver.   Residied at No. 7 Milton Rd according to
Stretford Memorial Book???

His wife - Mary Tomkinson was also killed in this incident.

Buried 31/12/1940 - Burial No. 17,905.  Unmarked Grave.
