The Canadian Star was built in 1939, its gross register tonnage was 8,293, it was 464 feet long, 60 feet wide and could make 13 knots. A passenger cargo liner, it was one of 38 ships operated by the Blue Star Line Ltd, 40 St. Mary Axe, London EC3. It could accommodate 12 - 1st class passengers. South-east of Cape Farewell, travelling from Australia to the U.K., on the 18/03/43 she was torpedoed by U-221, whilst in convoy HX229 and sank in position - 53.24N 28.34W. There were 59 survivors, but 29 crew/passengers were lost. |
