Originally named Lumen it was built in 1925, its gross register tonnage was
6,483, it was 420ft long, 54ft wide and could make 11.3 knots.  A cargop
ship, it was re-named Empire Light in 1942 and was on charter to the
British Ministry of War Transport.

North-east of Newfoundland, travelling from the U.K. to New York, a
straggler in convoy ON170, on the 07/03/43 she was first torpedoed by U-638
in position 53 57N 46 14E.   She was torpedoed again on the12/03/43 by
U-468 and sunk.   There were 5 survivors, but 45 crew/passengers were lost.
