Born on the 14th December 1909 at Monton, Eccles, Lancashire, the birth
being registered during the March quarter 1910, the son of George Edward &
Maria Haslam (nee Mason).    Baptised at St. Thomas' P.C., Wigan on the
16th January 1910.  His father is recorded as being a Commercial Traveller,
residing at 144 Anson Street, Monton

1911 Census - 79 Grosvenor Road, Urmston.   Son - aged: 1 - born: Monton,
Lancashire.   Head of household - George Edward Haslam - Married - aged: 32
- occ: Commercial Traveller in Clothing - born: Wigan, Lancashire.   Also -
Maria Haslam - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Wigan.    Plus 1 elder brother.

By 1921 the family is residing in Monton, Davyhulme.

His mother - Maria Haslam died in December 1920   His father married widow
Mabel Ashworth Wallace in 1922. 

1939 National Registration - 1 Cranworth Street, Stalybridge, Cheshire.  
George F. Haslam - Born on the 14th December 1909 - Single - occ:
Professional Groundsman at Glof Club.    Together with two other males, it
would appear that they are renting rooms at this address.

Married Phyllis Marsland during the December quarter 1943 in the Manchester
R.D. - ref: 8d/71

Took off at 12.26 hours from RAF Mepal in a Lancaster Mk I, No. NN710 AA-Q
to bomb Rheydt.   They crashed in the target area after being hit by a bomb
(presumably from another British bomber flying above them).  One crew
member survived to become a POW, the remainder were killed.  The other crew
members were:- Pilot - Flying Officer Haddon Shaw Miles RNZAF (aged: 27); 
Navigator - Flying Officer Michael McLoughlin Dowding (aged: 20);  Flying
Officer F.J. Gunn POW;  Flight Sgt. Wireless Operator - Trevor Walter
Coombridge RNZAF (aged: 21);  Air Gunner - Sgt. Edward Left;  Sgt. Dennis
Norman Mepham.  All commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial.

He was originally buried in the Monchchengladbach town cemetery, but later
in the Rheinberg Cemetery.   M.I. - "He loved the sunshine, home and life. 
All this he gave in sacrifice".

Commemorated on the family gravestone at St. Martin's Churchyard, Ashton on
Mersey and on St. Mary's P.C., Urmston, Memorial.

His wife Pyllis died 06/09/1985, aged: 78 years.     Phyllis's father -
John Marsland died 19/03/1912, aged: 39 years and her mother - Gertrude
Marsland died: 06/12/1958, aged: 87 years.
