The S.S. "Tortuguero" was a merchant vessel of 4,175 gross tons, built in
1900 and operated by Elders & Fyffes Ltd, Liverpool.   On the 26th June
1918 it was torpedoed by U156 and sunk in the Atlantic, 205 miles NW. ¼N.
from Eagle Island, in position 55.50N 15.30W whilst on voyage from
Liverpool to Kingston, Jamaica in ballast.   Her crew of 12 were lost.

Arthur went down with his ship on the 26th June 1918 and his body was
washed ashore at Kyle of Tongue, on the northern-most shore of Scotland on
the 1st September 1918.

Buried 06/09/1918 - Burial No. 15,709.

TURNER, ARTHUR HAROLD, Wireless Operator, only child of Arthur Blakeley
Turner, of Greylands, Whitehall Road, Darwen, by his wife, Lilian Mary.
dau. of A. Thomson; b. Timperley, Co. Chester, 30 Oct. 1899; educ. Wadham
House, Hale, and Bowden College, Bowden; entered the Marconi Service as
Wireless Operator in the Mercantile Marine 13 March, 1918; served on S.S.
Tortuguero, and was lost when that ship was torpedoed off the West Coast of
Ireland 26 June following. He was washed ashore at Kyle of Tongue, north of
Scotland. 1 Sept. 1918, and interred at Brooklands, co. Chester, 6 Sept.
1918; unm.
