1901 Census - No Trace.  Probably in South Africa, as he served in South
Africa during the Anglo-Boer War.

1911 Census -  Sialkot, India.    Private - aged: 33 - 2nd Battalion, The 
Black Watch - born: Rathmichael, Co. Dublin.

He had been in the thick of the fighting at Mons, The Marne, Aisne, Ypres
and Neuve Chappelle.

The Bn had suffered heavy losses in recent fighting - Casualties - 54
killed, 204 wounded, 112 missing (including Corporal Ellam).

Death reported in the 11/06/1915 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.
