Born during the March quarter 1889 in the Altrincham R.D. - ref: 8a/176,
the son of Hugh & Emily Mary Moncrieff (nee Green).  Thomas was registered
as a "Male" (no name given).

1891 Census - Woodhouse Cottages, Washway Road, Ashton upon Mersey.   Son -
aged: 2 - born: Altrincham.   Head of household - Hugh Moncrieff - Married
- aged: 34 - occ: Coachman - born: Edinburgh, Scotland.  Also - Emily
Moncrieff - Wife - aged: 28 - born: Bewdley, Worcestershire.   Plus 2
siblings, indicating that the family was in Edinburgh 1884,  Altrincham
1889.

1901 Census - 32 Pinnington Lane, Stretford.   Son - aged: 12 - born:
Altrincham.    Head of household - Hugh Moncrieff - Married - aged: 43 -
occ: Coachman (Domestic) - born: Ireland.  Also - Emily Moncrieff - Wife -
aged: 38 - born: Bewdley, Worcestershire.   Plus 3 siblings, indicating
that the family was in Altrincham 1889, Stretford 1897.

1911 Census - 23 Leslie Street, Stretford.   Son - aged: 22 - occ:
Electrical Engineer - born: Altrincham.   Head of household - Hugh
Moncrieff - Married - aged: 53 - occ: Coachman (Domestic) - born: Ashfield
Co. Moaghan.  Also - Emily Moncrieff - Wife - aged: 48 - born: Bewdley,
Worcestershire.   Plus 3 siblings, indicating that the family was in
Ireland in 1880, Altrincham 1889, Stretford 1898.

Employed as the Electrician at the Urmston Picture Palace.

Married Lilian Sharphouse during the June quarter 1912 in the Barton upon
Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/1284.  They had a son - Rupert E. Moncrieff - born
during the September quarter 1914 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. - ref:
8c/1316.

Sometime after 1914, the family moved to the town of Standish, north of
Wigan, Lancashire., where he is commemorated on the Town's War Memorial -
see www.mlfhs.org.uk/data/war_memorials_images.phop?memorial=895.    He is
also commemorated on the "Peace Gate" at St. Wilfrid's P.C. Standish.   
His father is listed there in 1925/26 as residing at "Limes Cottages",
Standish.  My thanks to David Long for the Standish information.

Lilian married a Duncan D. Birch during the December quarter 1915 and they
moved back to the Stretford area where their two children - Dorothy E &
Duncan D. Birch (Jnr) were born in 1916 and 1919 respectively.

Death reported in the 06/08/1915 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.   He
was one of a bathing party, he got into difficulties and sank before aid
could be rendered and drowned.

His is the only CWGC headstone in this small French village cemetery.

His mother died at Wigan  in 1929, aged: 73 and his father in 1929, aged:
67.
