Born Ellis Robert Ashworth during the June quarter 1896 in the Altrincham
R.D. - ref: 8a/195, the son of Samuel Holden & Emma Ashworth.

In 1891 his parents resided at 12 Richmond Grove, Chorlton-cum-Hardy (where
he was born, perhaps?).    Samuel was a Domestic Gardener - aged: 33 -
born: Manchester.   Emma was aged: 30 and born at West Bromwich.

His father - Samuel Holden Ashworth died in 1897, aged: 31.

1901 Census - No Trace.  (Not at 12 Richmond Grove).

1911 Census - 6 Robert Street, Sale.   Step-son - aged: 14 - occ: Bicycle
Builder - born: Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester.     Head of Household -
Emma Brown - Wife - Married - aged: 50 - born: West Bromwich.    Also -
Dora Brown - Step-daughter and Patrick Renny - adopted son.

The RND were at the time of his death involved in the "Operations on the
Ancre" - River Ancre that is - down towards the River Somme.   This
included Miraumont and other local attacks.   Serving with II Corps 5th
Army, the Drake Battalion were in the 189th Brigade, supported by the 189th
Brigade's Machine Gun Company and Trench Mortar Company.

On the 3rd February, he was involved in the capture of Puisieux Trench -
