Born during the September quarter 1899 in the Barton upon Irwell R.D. -
ref: 8c/638, the eldest son of Arthur Pemberton & Amelia Elizabeth Wood
(nee Kershaw).

1901 Census - Whitefield Road, Ashton upon Mersey.   Son - aged: 21 months

servants.

1911 Census - "Whitefold" (15 rooms) Alan Drive, Hale.   Son - aged: 11 -
born: Worsley, Lancashire.  Head of household - Arthur Pemberton Wood -
Married - aged: 39 - occ: General Manager, Electrical Engineering (Dynamo &
Motor) Works - born: Clifton, Lancashire.  Also - Amelia Elizabeth Wood -
Wife - aged: 35 - born: Farnworth, Bolton le Moors, Lancashire.  Plus 2
younger brothers and 3 domestic servants.

MIC - states that he was posted to France on 23/10/1918 and awarded the BWM
& the VM.   His father's address was given as Lancashire Dynamo & Motor
Company Ltd, Trafford Park.

Grandson of Dr. Kershaw of Farnworth.

Attended Wadham House School, Bowdon College, Malvern College and the Royal
Military College, Sandhurst.

Played 1st team Cricket, Football and Hockey for Bowdon College

Gained a commission in August 1917 and attd to the 18th Bn.

He had only been at the front a few days when at dawn on the morning of the
1st November, he led his Platoon "over the top" to his death.

Death reported in the 15/11/1918 edition of the Altrincham Guardian.

Listed on St. Peter's Memorial as having died on the 01/11/18 - local
newspaper gives that date as well.

His father was the Managing Director of the Lancashire Dynamo & Motor Co,
Trafford Park and the Lancashire Ordnance & Accessories Co, Heaton Norris. 
 He was also a member of the Board of Management of the Manchester &
District Armaments Output Committee.

M.I. - "Much loved most loving he had that best gift of God a kind &
melting heart".
