only child of William Robert Addison & Eleanor Anne Coates (nee Shaw).

Head of household - William Coates - Married - aged: 34 - occ: Surgeon -
born: York, Yorkshire.   Also - Eleanor Coates - aged: 36 - born:
Manchester.  Plus 2 domestic servants.

Commemorated on the Manchester University Memorial and Metro-Vickers Rugby
Union Football Club Memorial.

To provide night fighter cover for the D-Day invasion fleet and then for
the Normandy bridgehead, 604 Sqn was moved to A.8. Picauville, France on
the 6th August 1944.

Flying a Night Patrol, north of Paris in Mosquito NF.XIII - No. MM528, they
encountered a Ju88, but the a/c was hit by something and crashed.   The
pilot was thrown clear and survived but F/O. Coates was killed.

M.I. - "Most dearly loved only child of William & Eleanor Coates of
Haslingden, Lancashire".
