A mechanic, he joined the RAF in 1938.   His father was a technician with
the Air Ministry and his brother (W. Riding) was in the Royal Artillery.

Flying with 207 Sqn ('M' Flight - 'C' Unit), they took off from R.A.F.
Waddington, Lincolnshire, in a Manchester Mk.1, No. L7318 EM-K, they
crashed  at 1810hrs and the aircraft exploded after diving into the ground
in the Waddington Circuit at South Hykeham, Lincolnshire.

A total of 10 personnel died in this incident - the 6 crew and a servicing
party of 4 returning to base after attending to a Manchester that had
landed at Haverigg Airfield, Cumberland.

The Manchester Bomber, was the underpowered predecessor to the Lancaster
Bomber.

Buried 19/09/1941 - Burial No. 18,273.
