Born during the December quarter 1873 in the Chorlton R.D. - ref: 8c/711,
the son of John & Penelope Cooper (nee Toplis).

1881 Census -  91 Crosscliffe Street, Moss Side, Masnchester.   Son - aged:
7 - Scholar - born: Moss Side, Manchester.     Head of household - John
Cooper - Widower - aged: 37 - occ: Law Clerk - born: Manchester.    Also -
Penelope Cooper - Wife - aged: 32 - born: Stretford.  Plus 1 younger
brother and 1 servant.

His mother - Penelope Cooper died in 1884, aged: 36.

1891 Census - 92 Davyhulme Road, Barton Upon Irwell.     Son - aged: 17 -
occ: Stock Keeper - born: Moss Side, Manchester.    Head of household -
John Cooper - Widower - aged: 48 - occ: Clerk - born: Manchester.

Attested at Ashton under Lyne on the 10th February 1900.  Born in the
Parish of St. Mary's, Manchester - aged: 26 year 4 months.   Already
serving with the 4th Volunteer Brigade Manchester Rgt.  Height: 5 ft 5
inches.  Weight: 126 lb.  Chest 34½...36 inches.   Complexion: Fresh. 
Eyes: Brown.  Hair: Light Brown.  Presbyterian.

He attested on the 10th February 1900 and was on his way to South Africa on
the 15th February.

1901 Census - No Trace.   On his way home from South Africa.   His father
was now residing at 3 Wycliffe Road, Urmston - Head - Widower - aged: 57 -
occ: Clerk at County Court - born: Hulme, Manchester.

He arrived back in the UK on the 21st May 1901 and was discharged from the
Army on the 29th May 1901 after serving 1 year 109 days.  Awarded the
Queen's South Africa GS Medal and the 1901 Clasp.

He died just sevven days later on the 5th June 1901 and was buried on the
8th June.

His father married Mary Elizabeth Taylor in 1904.

1911 Census - His father is still residing at 3 Wycliffe Road, Urmston.

Manchester.    Also Mary Elizabeth Cooper - Wife - aged: 57 - born: Ridgway
