Born Maxwell Rowan at 54 Church Road, Urmston on the 19th August 1893, the
birth being registered during the September quarter 1893 in the Barton upon
Irwell R.D. - ref: 8c/726, the son of William John & Eleanor Hood-Rowan
(nee Aitken).

1901 Census - 7 Lime Avenue, Fllixton.   The family are all recorded as
Hood-Rowan.   Son - aged: 7 - born: Urmston.   Head of household - William
J. Hood-Rowan Married - aged: 41 - occ: Cotton Broker - born: Canada.  
Also - Eleanor Hood-Rowan - Wife - aged: 38 - born: Canada.  Plus 2
brothers and 1 domestic servant.  This included his younger brother Aitken
Hood-Rowan who was also killed during WW1.

1911 Census - Rowantree, Rabbit Road, Blundell Sands, Lancashire.   The
family are still recorded as Hood-Rowan.    Son - aged: 17 - occ: Cotton
Broker's Apprentice - born: Urmston.    Head of household - William John
Hood-Rowan Married - aged: 51 - occ: Cotton Broker - born: City of St.
John, New Brunswick, Canada.   Also - Eleanor Hood-Rowan - Wife - aged: 48
- born: Humpton, King's County, New Brunswick, Canada.  Plus 2 brothers and
1 domestic servant.

WO374/34509 - Enlisted at Liverpool on the 8th August 1914.   Previous
service was recorded as serving in the 1/6th (Rifles) Battalion, Kings
(Liverpool Rgt).   He was 21 years of age and 5 feet 7 1/2 inches in
height.  His chest measurements were 32 1/2 - 34 1/2 inches, his physical
development described as - Fair.   Embarked at Southampton on the S.S. City
of Edinburgh on the 24th February 1915.

Letters of Administration were granted to his father on the 17th October
1916 at the Liverpool Probate Office.  His Estate was valued at  £800.  2s
 6d.

Listed as a Private on St. Michael's War Memorial.

His father William John died 28/12/1920 aged 61 years.
